Valtellina is one of Italy’s most dramatic wine regions, located in Lombardy, the vineyards are located on steep mountains. The principal grape variety is Chiavennasca (the local name for Piedmont’s Nebbiolo and an Italian grape varietal that has been cultivated since medieval times here). The DOCG wines are generally comprised of at least 90% Chiavennasca and then blended with other quality local grapes like Brugnola, Rossola, Pignola. Then there is a DOC Valtellina Rosso (also called Rosso di Valtellina DOC) which requires at least 80% of the blend be Chiavennasca and does not have minimum ageing requirements.

From the outstanding 1985 Vintage
Reviews: "Lovely orange skins nose, together with nuts and figs. On the palate, it has finesse, elegance and such a sweet kickback. Massively enchanting and, now it is over the magic 20 years, perfection to drink."
Serena Sutcliffe , Cuisine & Wine Asia 2008
Very very dark. Sweet, spicy, liquorice nose. Very broad start to the palate and then dried fruits on the finish. Lots of firm tannins still. Still relatively embryonic. Heat on the finish. Lovely spice on the finish. Not the most stereotypically feminine Warre style of wine. Powerful finish. Almost brawny with some wild fruit and flower flavours on the nose.

St. Emilion Grand Cru
Reviews for 1985 Cheval Blanc
Medium garnet-brick colored, the 1985 Cheval Blanc sashays out of the glass with provocative notes of sandalwood, cinnamon stick, cardamom, dried lavender and wilted roses over a core of new leather, cigar box, prunes, raisin cake and dusty soil. Medium-bodied, soft and silken textured, it has tons of mature, melt-in-your-mouth flavors and a very long exotic spice-laced finish. Aug 2018, www.robertparker.com
Château Cheval Blanc is a property in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux, classified with the top ranking of Premier Grand Cru Classé A. It is regarded by many as the greatest wine of the appellation, and is certainly the most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine in the world.

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
The 1985 Latour is a soft, open-knit wine. The dark ruby colour displays amber at the edge. The bouquet is of tobacco, black fruits, herbs, earth, and new oak. The wine is medium-bodied, with sweet fruit on the attack.

perfect provenance | released from the Fonseca cellars in Porto.
Excellent Provenance. These bottles of Fonseca 1985 Vintage Port have been shipped straight from Fonseca's Cellars in Oporto to our cellars in Fordingbridge. They are in perfect condition.
The 1985 Fonseca Vintage Port has a lovely nose of maturing port, finely styled and just screaming quality. The palate carries a svelte texture, with a creamy, flattering character. There is purity, balance, a clean, bright quality and despite this lots of appealing grip. This has great impact, and yet is so welcoming and alluring. Excellent wine, and a great example of the vintage. (November 2006).

La Belle Epoque
The 1985 has always been a great year for champagne and the 1985 Belle Epoque is a fine example.
There is brightness and freshness on
the nose are exceptional, with slowly evolved toasty aromas mingling with the barest hints of mocha, vanilla, and roasted coffee. It is the Pinot Noir that, unusually for Belle Epoque, dominates this wine, which is extraordinarily masculine, with its forceful palate of rich, yeast-complexed dried fruits and candied peel. Great intensity, and finesse.

This robust, densely coloured port has plenty of muscle, power, and alcohol which is typical of the vintage. All the components of a classic port are there.

** 90 Points - Robert Parker **
Reviews "My experience with Smith-Woodhouse is limited. Is the 1985 the sleeper of the vintage? An astonishing amount of creamy, black-cherry and chocolate-scented fruit fills the nose. On the palate, this full-bodied wine is loaded with extract, great length, and has super finish with plenty of fruit and tannin in proper balance." Robert Parker, Wine Buyers Guide
